Beginning Monday, April 28th, construction on North Dirksen Parkway will close southbound traffic between Peoria Road and Terminal Road. The closure is expected to last approximately 6 weeks and during this time Route 1 - North 5th / Sand Hill will detour outbound to Walmart by taking Sangamon Avenue directly to Dirksen Parkway and then north to Sams Place into the Walmart parking lot. The inbound portion of the route will not be affected.

Northbound stops on Peoria Road and Sand Hill will not be in service, but riders who normally catch the Route 1 at those stops can board the bus inbound at stops on the opposite side of the road. The Route 1 inbound will meet up with the next outbound bus at Sangamon & 8th where riders can transfer from one to the other, and then ride the outbound detour to Walmart instead of riding all the way to the downtown transfer center.

Extreme caution is advised, as these are multi-lane roads with high-speed limits and no designated pedestrian crossings. It is recommended to make alternate transportation arrangements if at all possible.
